What makes news? Well, more like, which way do you get your news? With today's level of communicating news so high tech, it is instant and very easy to always know what is going on in your surroundings. In today's blog, I'll be discussing the different ways to receive news, what they have in common, and most importantly, what makes them different. Means of communicating are different and unique, just like the people that use them.
We all wonder, what do newspapers, radios, television, and the internet all have in common? You guessed it, they are all ways of communicating news! Even though they are all different and unique in their own ways, and all have their own ways of relaying information, they are nonetheless ways of communicating news. These forms of communication are all reliable and informative in their own way, and are our most trustworthy sources we look to for our news.
All forms of news have their similarities but of course they all have differences too! Lets start off with newspapers. Unlike most other forms of communicating news, newspapers are only handed out once a day, and are not our most up to date way to receive news. While they might not be the most efficient way to receive news, they are convenient in the way that you can choose what stories you would like to read, without having to read the ones that do not interest you, unlike television and radio, where you have to listen to everything. Television and radio are the two ways you can hear what the news is. News shows are more interactive because they can show pictures, videos, or live updates from the scenes. Television news is usually updated within the hour about local stories, traffic, and weather, making it easy for readers to hear and see what will be affecting them throughout the day. While radios can also be heard, they can only be heard. This can either be difficult or convenient for the listeners. Since the listeners can only hear the broadcasters use vivid details and words about what's going on so the reader can visualize it. The internet features some of the most up to date news. Like the newspaper, you read the stories off of the internet, but it can also feature clear pictures, and sometimes even videos. All of these different ways of communicating and receiving news show how similar our means of communication can be, but also how diverse they are.
I personally prefer to get my news from the internet, or radio. The internet is always easy because I can get updates on my cell phone, on the dashboard, and I can check it almost anywhere I am. The radio is also easy if I' m driving and need a quick update on traffic, or would just like to know what is going on around me. I sometimes like to watch the news on t.v. but it's not always convenient for me to turn on the t.v. when I have other things to do. News that I do watch on t.v. is celebrity news such as E! News, and Entertainment Tonight, as some of my guilty pleasures! They might not be "hard-hitting" news but they do the job sometimes. As much as I would like to sit down and read the newspaper everyday, or even just on a simple Sunday, I sadly don't have the time. With a busy schedule of school, swimming, and volunteering, it's so hard to find any quiet time, so until I find that time I will just have to stick to my technological resources.
We all have our own ways of receiving and communicating news. The newspaper and internet are both read and show pictures, but one is more up to date and "magical" than the other. While the newspaper is and always will be a classic it is not always up to date with the leading news stories. Radio and television are great, both are heard, but only one gives you an actual image of what is going on. All of these forms of news weigh heavily on both pros and cons, finding which on is best for you is based solely on what flaws you are willing to accept. Please share your thoughts on how you like to receive your news!
Until next time,
Chloe
