Before I started my quest into learning about journalism I really didn't know what to think about a journalist. I mean yes I knew that they wrote some articles but I really didn't know everything that went into being a journalist and let me tell you it's a lot! Journalists have so much more to do then it seems, I really don't even know how they sleep at night! Before this class I had no clue of journalist ethics, I always thought that the interviewee might just give a list of topics that they don't want to discuss and that was it. But boy was I wrong! I did at least understand the difference between impartial reporting and opinion reporting. I have always been somewhat interested in a journalism career but more so in the field of fashion and lifestyles.
My definition of a journalist has definitely changed. They do so much more than just write an article. They have to do so much research that seems never ending. And even after the article is written even more research has to be done as follow up. Now I believe there are so many purposes for journalism because there are so many different types. In some articles you are informing others but in some you are merely expressing your opinion on a topic. A journalist might be informing on a wide range of topics as well from local and state news to fashion and food! I still have an interest in journalism but still not in the field of news reporting unless it's E! News, haha. I think that to be a journalist you really have to love what you're reporting so that you can have the best story possible, so local news wouldn't be right for me.
